I knew this was going to be a good day when I saw I was working with one of my friends here in Istanbul. At 7:30 am, we get whisked to location. Upon arrival, we’re asked what we want for breakfast and the next thing we know, we have more than enough fruit and more than enough time to eat it: the team isn’t arriving until 10 am. We spend the morning hanging out and go for a short walk to the Bosphorus for some pictures to kill time. The photographer and crew arrive as promise promptly and we go from being in a not so good area to walking into a beautiful gated home on the water equipped with a pool, three levels and much more.
After another hour or so of setting up, I finally get my hair and makeup done. Turns out to be possibly the worst makeup I’ve had to date (straight out of the makeup artists' personal stash!) but I’m so happy to be working with a friend and not in a studio that it’s the least of my worries.
We each shoot one look and then go next door for a sit-down lunch on the water. When we come back, we each shoot one more and finish up by 6 pm. In all, I spent about an hour shooting and my friend spent no more than 20 minutes. While it could have been painfully slow seeing as how we sat around for hours, it was actually quite nice because of the beautiful weather, good company and tasty food.
The thing that made it an even far better than an average day of work here in Istanbul was the ride home. We were asked if we wanted to go by land or sea (naturally we chose sea) and were offered delicious red wine, healthy snacks, and a trip around the Bosphorus. It doesn’t get much better than that!
A good day of work here usually means a not so long of a commute, a short day, tasty healthy food, a beautiful location, and occasionally, they’re even followed up with a boat ride and a good glass of wine. It’s days like this that make it all worthwhile!
